BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
If the selected structure has applied Highlight colors or Ring Fill colors, those selected colors don't appear active (selected, in focus) in the corresponding Toolbars. In a contrast, it does for Colors Toolbar (3 Colors ToolBars.mp4).
DISCUSSION:
Both Highlight Colors and Ring Fill Colors Toolbars were introduced as a new functionality in a previous version of ChemDraw. Intuitively, it's expected, when a structure is selected and/or colored, a corresponding color appears active (selected, in focus) in the corresponding Toolbar.
For instance,
Undock Colors Toolbar in ChemDraw.
Draw two separate benzene rings.
Select second one. Notice, in Colors Toolbar Black color is selected. Select Red color.
Select first benzene ring. Notice, in Colors Toolbar Black color is selected.
Select Both benzene rings. Notice, BOTH Red and Black colors are selected in Colors Toolbar (VD-BetaV21-0024.png).
Following the same approach do it for two different Ring Fill and Highlight colors. Notice, there is no active color selection in Both Highlight Color or Ring Fill Color Toolbars (VD-BetaV21-0025.png).
In a contrast to Colors Toolbar [8 Basic colors, until you start adding Custom colors], both Highlight and Ring Fill colors Toolbars have a larger pre-defined color choices and in some scenarios, it's impossible to tell what color has been used without re-coloring. For instance, pre-defined Color#1 was used for a left Benzene ring, Color#2 - for a right, but visually it's impossible to distinguish and identify it correctly (VD-BetaV21-0025.png). Re-coloring is the only option to resolve a doubt.
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:
Making the color used for Ring Fill or Highlight of the selected structure appears active [selected, in focus], which allows to identify what color is/was used much easier. It is handy as well when numerous structures with different applied ring Fill and/or Highlight colors are selected. You can easily check how many colors were used and if any additional colors were used by accident.
